Direct Primary Care is a healthcare model that sees patients without charging insurance. Patients pay a low monthly membership to have direct access to their doctor and receive quality medical care when they need it. If you have insurance you can still use that for medications and labs, although many people find that it is less expensive to use the clinic’s discounts for this.
We offer preventive/wellness services, management of chronic conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and thyroid disease, among many others. We do many procedures including joint injections, minor skin procedures and pap smear testing. We provide sick visits which can be in-person, video or over the phone or messaging, recognizing that different issues need different levels of care and that you don’t always need to alter your schedule to come in and be seen. We are not able to provide vaccines, but can assist you in arranging these. We also do not provide prenatal care but can diagnose your pregnancy and help get you set up with a quality Obstetrics provider.
Yes, we recommend that everyone still have an insurance policy, although you may find you are able to save money by getting a less extensive plan (“catastrophe policy”) or a healthshare. This protects you in the event of an emergency or if you have to be referred to a specialist for care that we aren’t able to provide in our office. We try to be very comprehensive to minimize these situations, however. Reach out to your local insurance agent for more information on the options that work best for you.
Direct Primary Care and Concierge Medicine have some similarities in that both models have a small number of patients per doctor to allow personalized, quality care (think ~200-500 patients per doctor as opposed to ~1500-3500 for typical fee-for-service medical offices). They are different in that Concierge Medicine bills insurance and generally charges a higher monthly rate for patients. Direct Primary Care clinics are able to charge less for the same high-quality care by working outside of insurance and keeping overhead low.
No. While we believe and hope that you will love being a patient here, we don’t hold anyone to any specific time commitment by purchasing a membership. We do request that you give us 30 days notice if you choose to discontinue your membership.
